2004 AVL Final Results

The MU Renegades teams enjoyed some excellent wins during the 2004 Australian Volleyball League.
The two MU Renegades teams enjoyed good wins during the 2004 Australian Volleyball League. The men's team ended the season in 8th place, equal on points with the University of Queensland in 7th but just below on sets percentage. The women's team also finished the season in 8th place (out of 11 teams in both competitions). Eighth spot though does not represent how very competitive the teams were against the best the nation has to offer.
The MU Renegades men had good wins against Mt Lofty Ranges (who won the grand final to be 2004 AVL champions), Monash University in straight sets, Western Australia in straight sets and University of Queensland. The women could also boast victories over local rivals Monash University, Canberra Heat, and University of Queensland.
The 2004 AVL men's champions were Mt Lofty Ranges, defeating the Australian Institute of Sport in 3 convincing sets. In the women's competition, the grand final went all the way to five sets before the Australian Institute of Sport finally came away with the win against a determined Sydney University Lions.
It has been great to see SBS Television continuing their support of volleyball after the Athens Olympics, showing the AVL finals, held at the State Netball and Hockey Centre, Parkville, on free-to-air television during December and January.
We now look forward to another exciting season of the Australian Volleyball League starting in the second half of 2005.
