Melbourne University Renegades will join other major Australian volleyball clubs in competing for the title in the Australian Volleyball League Competition (AVL) for 2002. Australian Volleyball Federation General Manager, Andrew Scotford, announced this week that Renegades will be one of four teams from Victoria in the nation-wide competition.

Melbourne University Renegades women's team has already secured current AVL player Sue Mullen, voted Most Valuable Player in the Victorian Volleyball League for 2001. It is a new level of competition, but one the club is ready for following this year's success both in the Victorian Volleyball League competition and the Victorian State Cup tournament circuit. It is a major step for the club in achieving its vision to become the leading volleyball club in Australia.

The Australian Volleyball League (AVL) season, which begins in March, will be a series of home and away games in Victoria, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, and South Australia. Home games will be held at Melbourne University Sports Centre, Parkville Campus, and are hoped to attract the Australian sporting public who do not often get the opportunity to see elite volleyball.

Melbourne University Renegades' acceptance into the Australian Volleyball League was reliant on support from the Club's major sponsors, The University of Melbourne.

An information night will be held for potential players and club members interested in volunteering in early January. For more details email the club at volleyball@sports.unimelb.edu.au
