tough trip interstate : round 2 : canberra

The Australian Volleyball League continued for the MU Renegades teams on Saturday (March 16) up in Canberra. It was a tough trip away for both the men's and women's teams, winning just one set between them for the weekend.
The weekend was hosted by Canberra Heat at Southern Cross Stadium in Tuggeranong, ACT, and Canberra Heat showed their strength against both Melbourne Uni Renegades and Monash Uni. The MU Renegades men played Canberra Heat after they had defeated Monash in the morning session. Unfortunately for MU Renegades, Canberra Heat had their second win for the day, 3-0 (25:19, 25:22, 25:14). The MU Renegades women faired no better on the Saturday, losing 3-0 (25:17, 25:15, 25:21).
The Monash Uni men caused the upset of the round earlier in the week with their five sets win over reigning champions, Melbourne Falcons. However, Canberra Heat again defeated them in straight sets on the Sunday. For the Melb Uni Renegades men the result was the same despite a close third set, going down 3-0 (25:11, 25:21, 25:23). The Melbourne Uni Renegades women put on a great fight in their second match of the weekend though, winning the second set but eventually losing 3-1 (25:21, 23:25, 27:25, 25:20).
So, Canberra Heat showed themselves to be one of the teams to beat in their first few matches of this year's AVL. After their great start in round one against Monash Uni, the Melb Uni Renegades teams had a tough time away in round 2 but are back home in Melbourne for week 3 against Casey Thunder and Queensland Pirates.
