The Melb Uni Renegades men's and women's AVL teams were on a high after their round 1 wins at Warrnambool on Saturday, March 9. Hosted by Melbourne Uni Renegades with great assistance from the Warrnambool Volleyball Association, the night was the perfect AVL debut for the club.

It was the first ever round of the national league to be held outside of a capital city, and Warrnambool proved a great venue with the town looking to host an international match later this year. Warrnambool's local newspaper The Standard reported that Australian Volleyball Federation general manager, Andrew Scotford, praised the local organisers saying "they brought a new level of professionalism and presentation to a national event."

More than 200 spectators watched Melbourne University Renegades take on Monash University in both mens and womens - arch rivals in Australian intervarsity sport.

The women were first up on centre court and things began badly for MU Renegades with Cress Savige breaking a finger during warm-up. This was a major blow to both Cress and the team as she faces several months on the sidelines. However, MU Renegades proved too strong on court, winning in straight sets, 26-24, 25-18, 25-19.

The Monash Uni men's team were missing several players and the Melbourne University Renegades completed a great night for the club with a four sets win, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19.
