Renegades Beach Tournament and Christmas Party

The Melbourne University Renegades ran their first combined function down at St Kilda Beach West on the weekend. With a good mixture of club members, family and friends, the social beach volleyball tournament had 13 teams of four, plus plenty of on-lookers to substitute in for those starting to feel tired and sunburnt as the day wore on.
The weather was a little overcast at the start of play and with just a gentle wind, conditions were ideal for a social day playing on the beach. By mid-afternoon though, the sun was out and the sea breeze was beginning to pick up, ensuring that the best beach team on the day would win.
The competition was close and semi-final teams had to be decided on a points count-back. In the end, it was Daryl's family verses Shane's team in the grand final, with Dazza's team coming out on top. The Dick Whittington generously supplied t-shirts, caps and drink vouchers as prizes to both the winners and runners-up teams.
After a couple of hours break to clean up it was off to the Dick Whittington Tavern, the club's new sponsor, for dinner and Christmas drinks. The club also made a presentation to the Dick Whit, thanking them for their sponsorship. The party went on well into the night, making for a great end to the volleyball year.
Thanks particularly to David Warwick and a handful of others who organised the beach day, and all the club members, friends and family who turned up to make it a great success (and probably an annual club event).
