MU Renegades dominate the 2001 Latrobe Valley State Cup

Melbourne University Renegades sent five teams to the 2001 Latrobe Valley State Cup held at Morwell on the weekend of October 13-14. With no separate Honours divisions, the Honours women's team were forced to play in Division 1 with a 5 point penalty while the men mixed their Division 1 and Honours teams.

The Honours women had beaten Heidelberg, the only other state league Honours team in the competition, during the rounds and came up against them again in the Grand Final. Unfortunately, this time Heidelberg proved too strong and the Renegades women had to settle for second place.

Both of the two MU Renegades teams entered in Division 1 men reached the Grand Final on Sunday afternoon and had an enjoyable final match. The team of Gus, Sacha, Gav, Carlos, Chris and Ryan eventually winning the tournament - Renegades teams have won the top division at Morwell for several years now.

Also playing on the weekend were a combined MU Renegades Division 2 men's team.
