The Culver-Stockton Experience
Melbourne University Volleyball Club was lucky enough to be paid a visit by an American NAIA women's volleyball team back in July.
[img_assist|fid=71|thumb=0|alt=Tanya spiking for Renegades|class=image-legacy]Competing in a 4-team round robin tournament held at the Melbourne UniversitySports Centre on Thursday, July 16, the girls fromCulver-StocktonCollege (plus a couple of extra players from nearby Unis) managedto make the final. With a busy schedule and suffering from jet-lagthough (and a superior opposition team - Renegades), they quicklysurrendered 3-0 to the Renegades Honours team.
Following the matches on that Thursday night, the whole Melbourne Uni Volleyball Club (mostly the guys actually) made their way down to The Clyde and were waiting for the team at front bar. Finally, they made a grand entrance with the cries of "U-S-A, U-S-A", after unloading off their infamous Budget mini-bus.
After making acquaintances, it was off to the Lemon Tree, but unfortunately it was closed. So, in desperation, the Culver-Stockton "ladies" headed to the only place that was open at that hour - Twins. Naturally enough, some of the guys followed and continued their "diplomat pleasantries".
With the focus on the social aspects of Melbourne's nightlife, the girls from Missouri attended a gig at the Victoria Hotel. Of course, the guys didn't pass up the invitation. So, Eric and Quan (and friends) were their chaperones as everyone headed to a downtown bar after listening to a very mellow country-style band at the Victoria.

Thank you to Dave Warwick and Dave Martin fortheir organisation of the tournament which was a great success, and tothe other club members (especially Eric and Quan) for showing the"ladies" a good time.
Hopefully, future ventures with visiting College volleyball teams from the US are possible due to our "Culver-Stockton Experience".
