VVL 1997 on ABC TV

ABC television has been down filming volleyball action on the weekends for inclusion in their Saturday afternoon sports shows. The idea is for volleyball to be shown during breaks in the station's coverage of the VFL football on Saturdays. And, time permitting, a round-up of the weekend's VVL results will be displayed at around 5pm along with the following week's matches.

The ABC should be congratulated for this initiative in promoting Victorian volleyball, and showing the State's best volleyballers to the wider public. Despite the large numbers of people playing the game, volleyball has been largely ignored in the Australian media. To some extent this is understandable given our country's relatively low world ranking. With a number of Australian represntatives (both senior and junior) now playing in the VVL though, Victorian club volleyball is probably the best in the country, and certainly worthy of television coverage.
