In an a marathon, 2 hour and 15 minute five set match that had everything from injuries to controversial refereeing decisions, the Division 2 Blue girls walked away with victory over the Red team and top spot on the ladder. Reds had held top spot for 14 rounds, and had looked set to stay that way. But two losses in a row to different Monash teams opened the door for the Blue team. Both teams had 11 wins going into the derby.

The match was worthy of a top of the table clash. Reds took a tight and intense first set, managing to save two set points before winning a set where both teams played quality volleyball. The second and third sets were much flatter. It would be very difficult to maintain the intensity of the first set over an entire match. Blues took out both, with a slight hiccough in the 3rd, with setter Jess Som sustaining a blood nose, requiring an special substitution. Blues looked set to take the match in four sets, but several clean winners from Kelly Royans handed the set to Reds. In the fifth, Reds went to the change-over up by a point, but three service winners from Jess Vartto opened up a lead and set up triple match point. Blues converted on the second attempt. The ensuing celebration showed how much the win meant to the team.
