Five Players Reach 100 Game Milestone

Congratulations to Dean Penny, Michael Werner, Felicity Brown, Nicki Stevens and Martene Bond who all played their 100th state league (VVL) match for Renegades this season.
Unfortunately, official records haven't been well kept (either by the Association or the Club) in the past so some of the Club's older players such as Gus Cirillo and David Warwick, who each have played hundreds of state league matches, haven't received the recognition they deserve. We have however kept reliable records of Victorian Volleyball League matches since the 1999 season and Dean, Michael, Felicity, Nicki and Tene all reached the 100 game milestone for the club in the first half of 2005.
Still to reach 100 matches this season are Caitlin McOmish, Tom Andrews and possibly Gareth de Korte in the final round. David Warwick and Gus Cirillo have played hundreds of matches for Renegades over the years, but they too are soon to break 100 matches played since records began in 1999.
Dean Penny, whose brother Gavin has also played 90 state league matches for Renegades since 1999, grew up in West Wyalong, NSW. He first played for Renegades at the Wangaratta tournament in 1997 before moving to Melbourne and quickly establishing himself as a key player in the Honours Men's team.
Michael Werner, originally from Swan Hill, Victoria, has been an integral part of the Honours Men's team for several years, winning the team's MVP award in 2003. Both Michael and Dean have also been key members of MU Renegades's Australian Volleyball League team.
Felicity Brown came to Renegades as a student at the University of Melbourne, playing for several years in the Australian University Games. She soon cemented a spot in the Honours Women's team and also became a valuable member of the Renegades Australian Volleyball League side.
Nicki Stevens, like Felicity grew up in Bendigo and still occasionally plays for Bendigo's Golden Circle team in the annual Dragon City tournament. As a setter, she too has been a key member of the Honours Women's team and the Renegades Australian Volleyball League side.
Martene Bond (the only one of the five to grow up in Melbourne) joined Renegades as a Melbourne University student where, as setter, she was a core member of the intervarsity team, travelling to many Australian University Games. Well known throughout Victorian volleyball circles, she has been an important team member, coach and committee member for many years, providing great leadership around the Club.
Congratulations to all five players and to those nearing the 100 state league match landmark.
