The committee sometimes do a few more things than just get together for BBQ's! Here are a few new things that were discussed / decided by the commitee at our last committee meeting (November 2009).

1. Appoint Tournament Manager for 2010

In looking at how tournaments ran this year and talking to lots of players, we've found that information about tournaments isn't being clearly communicated to the masses, and people are confused about exactly how tournaments are being organised. To help remedy this, next year we will find a volunteer to act as the club tournament manager. The details of the role are:

  • Role to be filled by ordinary member of the committee
  • Tournament manager will ensure each tournament is organised in a timely manner. This role does not involve organising each tournament, but is simply about ensuring somebody does
  • The committee will endeavour to document useful information (tournament dates, entry deadlines, accommodation used in the past) to facilitate the role

Just think, next year this could be YOU! (please?)

2. Agenda For End of Year Coaches Meeting

The committee hashed out a set of items that we felt it was important to see addressed during the next coaches meeting:

  • Coaching positions for 2010
  • Pre-season training timetable
  • Junior girls program development
  • Coaching as a team: remove the barriers between honours, div 1 & div 2

3. Boot Camp / Pre Season / Training ... call it what you like

We had a discussion about planning for the start of training next year. Most importantly, we've set a date for when we head back indoors and get the balls out (January 18).

  • First day back: January 18th 2010
  • Ball work to be integrated with fitness sessions
  • Specialised trainer to run fitness & conditioning sessions - timetable to be developed by coaches & trainer.

4. Key outcomes of player interviews: how will the committee plans address issues raised

At the end of the season the women's coaching group got together and had season review interviews with as many players as they could. The outcomes of that provided a lot of interesting points for us to discuss as a committee, particularly around areas where we can improve as a group to better meet everybody's expectations. Some of the outcomes that the committee are looking to implement based on these interviews are:

  • Committee must communicate more with members:
    • Notify club members of important issues discussed & decisions made consistently through out the year. Information to be communicated via website to club members after each committee meeting (you see this message? it's working!).
    • Document new (& existing) club policies on website where they can be accessed by all club members
  • Must communicate more effectively to new members:
    • Develop an "Introductory" booklet to hand to new & existing members. Accurate general club information can then be easily passed on by all existing members to newbies - not relying solely on those in the committee or "in the know". This should replace the current collection of random handouts that do the rounds.
  • Team objectives, rules & club policies:
    • Coaches to hold mandatory team meetings before the start of State League to develop team game & training objectives and rules
    • Teams should agree on tournament objectives before going (ie: playing to win vs playing socially for post-season tournaments) to ensure everybody's on the same page and have a good time.
    • Player pledges / agreements - requires further discussion by the committee

5. Submit funding & club support submission to Melbourne Uni Sport

Always fun, we had a crack at investigating the jigsaw that is training times and venues and reviewed what extra facilities we could make use of.

  • Discussed stadium hall hire application (ie: what days & times do we want the gym)
  • Applying for more permanent use of rooms other than the stadiums, such as laser room, heavy weights room & spinning room.
