A University Blues Friendship Tour is being organised in conjunction with the Chinese University Volleyball Association and will involve hosting a visit of Chinese University Volleyball teams to Australia this year in Melbourne in August.

A Tour schedule is being developed that will involve academic, cultural and volleyball activities and exchange for our Chinese visitors. This will include official welcome and farewell functions with the Melbourne and Monash University Volleyball Clubs, our respective University Sport organisations and the two Universities.

The Friendship Tour will involve a combination of five (5) Universities that between them will bring up to eight (8) teams - 4 women's and 4 men's teams. The five (5) universities taking part in this tour will be:

  • Bei Hang University (which we visited in Beijing)
  • Nankai University (which we visited in Tian Jin) - only have a women's team
  • Ji Lin University (from North Eastern China)
  • Shan Doong (in Jinan, capital city of Shan Dong Province)
  • Nan Jing University (located in Shanghai).

At this time, it is expected that the Chinese delegation will arrive on Saturday 1st August and depart on Wednesday 12th August.

We will be scheduling volleyball matches in the evenings of Monday 3rd through to Thursday 6th August and then from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August. Most matches will take place on Campus at Monash and Melbourne Universities, with a number of matches taking place in local schools that are involved in the Junior Development Programs of the two University volleyball clubs. This is likely to include St Bernard's if possible It may also involve exhibition matches on the evening of the 8th August as part of the State Schools Cup on the weekend of 8th/9th August.

Our visitors will also be involved in tourist and cultural activities as well as tours of each University. We are planning to also have 1-2 coaching clinics in which we will aim to have the Chinese coaches pass on some of their approaches to our Club coaches and Monash Unis coaches as a development activity for our Club coaching personnel. Coaches will be able to attend one or both sessions.

Our Honour's Men's and Women's teams will have a schedule of matches to play against the visiting Chinese teams, alongside the University Blues Men's and Women's teams. As no training will occur during this week, we will be involving all our teams in hosting the matches/watching games and assisting with duty. Please expect that all Clubs members will be involved in some way during this week.

The Renegades Committee has supported the Tour and we are seeking 3-4 club members to volunteer to join in an organising committee to help with organising the Friendship Tour. This Committee will involve a similar number of Monash Uni Volleyball Club members in organising the detail for the tour.
