As far as we can tell, it's been close to 20 years since the Renegades Honours mens team enjoyed finals success! But after a dominating season where they held top position on the ladder from round 1, this years team has finally broken the premiership drought in a thrilling 5 set match versus Monash University!

Between Gus and myself, we have been trying to work out when the Men's 'first' team last tasted finals success. I joined the club in 1983 and then made the first team in 1988. As my memory stands, I watched two losing grand finals from '83 to '87 and played in three losses from '88 to '93.

Along with the excitement of a grand final on the weekend our club was also represented in 2 other prestigious awards. Congratulations to Taleni Afatasi and Jasmine Bieri who were announced as the MVP winners for the Mens and Womens Honours competitions!

Volleyball Victoria have just released a list of the top eight MVP vote winners in each division.
The following Renegades are amongst those listed and are in the running to win VVL MVP of their division.
- Honour's Men - Taleni Afatasi
- Honour's Men - Faalogo 'Sua' Sualauvi
- Div1 Men - Paul 'Chappy' Chapman
- Div2 Men - Russell Seitz
- Honour's Women - Jasmine Bieri
- Div1 Women - Jess MacMillan

The honour's men put in a great effort Saturday to defeat Heidelberg 25-23 25-20 19-25 25-21 and earn a rematch against Monash in the final.

Unfortunately the Honours Men chose a bad time for their first loss to Monash, going down in 5 uneven, topsy turvy sets on Saturday (19-25 25-19 18-25 25-14 15-6 ).

Congratulations to the honours mens team for finishing the season at the top of the table. They play their semi-final against Monash this Saturday at 2pm and they're going to need the full force of the Renegades cheer squad behind them. So everyone in the club needs to turn up dressed in their best red attire ready to sing and chant.

The club has decided that its time to update the banner situation (as much as we all love Eric’s attempts to sew) and buy a proper banner. So all you creative geniuses get that pencil out and start designing. And for those with less creative talent (such as me) give it a shot on the computer, it’s amazing what can be done these days on a computer!!

Next tuesday is a Melbourne University holiday so the gym will be shut in the evening. This means no training at Melbourne Uni for anyone, because this is the last training session before state league starts for the Div2 Mens we've booked the hall at Gilmore College.
